Arnold Sr.

and Minnie George. He married Christine McVay in Waterloo. Mr. Arnold was a professional chef. Survived by: his wife; two sons, Royce Arnold Ill and Mario Valdez Arnold, both of Moline, two daughters, LaRoyce Reynolds of St.

Ries, 84, of Elma, died Monday, Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City, of natural causes; survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters, Elaine Laures of Osage and Marilyn Schaudenecker of Alta Vista; four sons, John and Gary both of Elma, Ed R. of Spring Valley, and Mike L. of Cresco; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren; he was preceded in death by four brothers, his twin, Raymond, Harold, Leonard, and Cletus in infancy; and two sisters, Janice, and Marianne in infancy; services will be 11 a.m.

Ries retired from farming in 1980. WAVERLY Isabel L. Steenhard, 83, of Waverly, formerly of Hampton, Mason City and Arizona, died Monday, Dec. 3, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo, from complications of cancer; survivors include a daughter, Shelmerdene Perry of Lakeside, two sons, Larrie of Waverly and Dennis of Yuma, 19 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and three grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her husband, Else, in July 1991; a daughter, Janice Marie Draper; six sisters, Edna Henley, Velma Box, Retha Richter, Goldie Wauken, Crystal Spillet and Viola Ball; and four brothers, Clarence, Orville, Virgil and Cecil Ball; memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bartels Lutheran Home chapel, Waverly; there will be no visitation, her body was cremated; Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is in charge of arrangements; memorials may be directed to Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community; Mrs.

Steenhard and her husband worked as farm hands in Latimer, Hampton, Chapin, Rowan and Greene; they then owned and operated restaurants in Marble Rock and later Dows, retiring in the early 1970s; the couple moved to Yuma where they managed Circle Convenience Stores for the next 20 years. VINTON- Marian Eleanor Fuehrer, 70, died at home Monday, Dec. 3, of cancer; survivors include her husband, daughters, Paula Happel and Amy Garwood, both of grandsons; and two sisters, Geraldine "Pidge" Amsden Rammelsburg, both of Vinton; she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Randy Daily; and a sister, Loretta Brehm; services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Vinton, with private committal services at a later date; friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.

Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, where there will be a 7 p.m. Scripture service; memorials may be directed to a nursing scholarship to be established in her name, or to the Vinton Public Library; Mrs. Fuehrer graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Cedar Rapids, as a registered nurse; she began her nursing career in 1952 as a floor nurse at Virginia Gay Hospital, Vinton, where she served as a surgical nurse, operated the lab and X-ray departments and was the first director of nursing; she also helped to found the Medical Records Department at Virginia Gay prior to retiring in 1994; she and her husband also owned and operated Micky's Bar, Vinton. DECORAH Ruby S. Moen, 90, of Decorah, died Sunday, Dec.

Paid Obituary Clara C. Grant died Saturday, Dec.

1, at Lifecare Hospital of North Texas in Dallas, Texas. The Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Clara Celecta Grant was born May 20, 1914, northeast of Cresco, the daughter of Everette and Lora (Culbert) Smith. She graduated from Cresco High School in 1932. On Jan.

29, 1934, she married Edward Grant in Canton, Minn. They were later divorced. Mrs. Grant moved to Dallas, Texas, in the mid-1940s. She remained there the rest of her life.

She was a devoted mother to her handicapped son, David. She trained him to help with her in-home sewing business. He died at their home in July 1995. She took comfort in writing religious poetry and loved to share it with anyone who would listen. She is survived by three nieces: June C.

Belz of Cedar Falls, Jean C. Childers of Pembroka, MA, and Joyce C. Hopp, Mason City. She is also survived by seven great and nephews and seven great great-nieces and nephews. Mrs.

Grant was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David; her brother, Albert Culbert Smith, in 1996; and a greatnephew, Jacob Burbridge. of of Des Moines and grandparents, Mr. and in Waterloo. in care of Sanders WATERLOO- Michael E. Cortright, 59, of Waterloo, died Monday, Dec. 3, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.

He was born Nov. 30, 1942, in Minneapolis, son of Kenneth and Virginia Stevens Cortright. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survived by: two brothers, Kevan of Waterloo and Steven of San Diego; five sisters, Eileen Herzog of Independence, Rosalie Kadavy of Davenport, Gail Jacobs of Houston, Rosemary Zummak of Jesup and Cathy Baker of Des Moines; and 24 nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and two brothers, Dan, and an infant. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward's Michael Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cortright Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.

Friends may call from 2 to p.m. today at Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church. Memorials: may be directed to ManorCare Health Systems or Cedar Valley Hospice.

RAYMOND- Jerome John Etringer, 72, of Raymond, died Saturday, Dec. 1, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of can- cer. He was born June 29, 1929, in Gilbertville, son of Frank and Anna Esther Even Etringer. He married Helen A. Falk on Jan.

15, 1962, in Barclay. She died Aug. 11, 1989. Mr. Etringer was a dairy farmer for many years, and after that had a painting business.

Survived by: a son, Gerald of Gainesville, four daughters, Karen Pielow of Minneapolis, Mary Bing of Wooster, Ohio, Sandy Darveau of Waterloo and Lori Etringer of Boston; seven Jerome grandchildren; a brother, Francis of Omaha, Etringer and five sisters, Marie Schuman and Marcella Dunnwald, both of Waterloo, Rottinghaus of Gilbertville, and Sr. Orleans. Bean, 55, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Dec. 3, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, from complications of diabetes. He was born Aug. 16, 1946, in Waterloo, son of Francis E. and Dorothy A.

Harrington Bean. He married Glenda R. Greenwood in 1973, and they later divorced. He then married Jill Marie Henry on April 22, 1978, in Cedar Falls. Mr.

Bean was a press operator for Hinson Manufacturing and for FMS Manufacturing for 24 years, retiring in 1994. Survived by: his wife; a son, Douglas R. of Waterloo; four daughters, Victoria M. Bean of Richard Bean Cedar Falls, Kristi R. Bean of Marion, and Richard Bean Brenda S.

Gosden and Lori L. Koch, both of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; a brother, Alfred of Des Moines; and a sister, Julie Gallmeyer of Waterloo. Preceded in death by: his parents; a sister, Karen Weber; a brother, Edward; and a stillborn daughter. Memorial services: 10 a.m. Friday at St.

WATERLOO Lymon James Parker, 69, of Waterloo, died Monday, Dec. 3, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from injuries received in a fire at his home. He was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Waterloo, son of Raymond George and Elsie Mae Kramer Parker.

He was employed as a construction worker. Survived by: four sisters, Leota Parker of Aledo, Lois Lancaster of Moravia, LaDonna Treat of Gardner and Linda Strunk of Rock Island, and two brothers, Leroy of Mechanicsville and Leon of Farrgot, Tenn. Preceded in death by: four brothers, LaVern, Larry, Leonard and Lyle. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Thursday in Poyner Township Cemetery.

King, 80, of Fairbank, died Wilbert Simmons Dec. 3, at Mick; two Vinton; two and Joan Marian Fuehrer Marian Fuehrer Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, after a sudden illness; survivors include a daughter, Connie King of Davenport; two sons, Bill of Kingwood, Texas, and Tom of Dyersville; five grandchildren; and a brother, Hayes Sidney of Phoenix; he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, on Sept. 17; services will be 10:30 a.m.

Clar, 78, of Marshalltown, formerly of Beaman, died Monday, Dec. 3, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center of natural causes; survivors include two brothers, Roland W. of Marshalltown and Jim of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Florence Holl of Conrad and Helen Steitz of Cedar Rapids; services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Beaman United Methodist Church, with burial in Vienna Cemetery, Beaman; military rites will be conducted by Conrad American Legion Post 681; friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Johnston Funeral Home, Conrad; a memorial fund is being established; Mr.

Clar was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. Paid Obituary James H. Jackson, a former senior vice president with CIGNA, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at his West Hartford, home, surrounded by his family.

Following his tenure at CIGNA, Mr. Jackson later began his own business ventures, which included Kids' Corner, accredited day care centers in Hartford and New Haven, and PIP Printing operations in Chicago. Mr. Jackson later held the position of interim president of the Blackowned North Milwaukee State Bank. Born in Waterloo, Iowa, Mr.

Jackson was the son of the late James Vernon and Wilma Christine Jackson. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Mr. Jackson taught in Waterloo Public School James District for several years. Soon after, he Jackson became the youngest African American ever elected to the Iowa House of Representatives. Mr.

Jackson was a pioneer for other African Americans in corporate America. In 1965, Mr. Jackson accepted a position with Pepsi-Cola Bottling where he achieved the rank of vice president. He also held senior management positions with ITT and later Citibank, as vice president in the International Division. Characteristically athletic, fun loving and quick witted, he was a wonderful role model and mentor.

In addition to his career accomplishments, he was well known in his home state of Iowa for his athletic skills, and in 1988 he was inducted into the University of Northern Iowa Hall of Fame for his basketball finesse. Mr. Jackson was active in various civic and community organizations, including the board of trustees for the Children's Museum of Science; a past corporator of Hartford Hospital; a member of the Council for Concerned Black Executives; a founding member of the Executive Leadership Conference; a member of Operation PUSH; and various fraternal organizations, including the Zeta Boule Chapter of Sigma Pi Phi. Mr. Jackson is survived by his devoted wife, Janet; beloved sister, Sharon Holman; four daughters, Denise, Jacqueline, Stephanie and Christine; a son, James Marques; three sons-inlaw, Dean Parchment, the Rev.

Angelo Riley and James Johnson III; six grandchildren, Zakari, Alyssa, Leanna, Savahnah, Nolan and Kaylah; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be noon Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at the Union Baptist Church, 1921 Main Hartford. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery, Bloomfield. His family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m.
