Schmitt, 81, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Aug. 22, in the emergency room at Allen Hospital.

Billy L. Becker 948-2009) READLYN Billy L. Becker, 60, of Readlyn, died Friday, Aug. 21, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of can Sisters. He was born Nov.

22, 1941, in Oelwein, son of Paul John and Vera Bernice O'Brien Marrah. He married Debhine Rose Phillips on cancer. He was born Dec. 14, 1948, in Oelwein, son of Lester L. and Verla M.

Tiedt Becker. He married Sandy Fortsch on April 6, 1974, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Mr. Becker worked in Machine Maintenance for John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 2005, and currently was working for Joe Kresser Trucking of Jesup. Survived by: his wife; his mother, Verla He was born Aug.

20, 1928, in Dewar, son ot Albert and Martha Hayes Schmitt. Mr. Schmitt farmed in the Dewar area all his life, retiring in 1990. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was an avid pilot and was past commander andpastchaplainofNugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714. He then worked for John Deere, Waterloo, for 30 years, retiring in 1996 as an Drollinger of Iowa City; three daughters, Nicole (Ben) Wilkens of Waverly, Michelle (Dan) Smith of Sumner and Amanda Hall of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren, Lauren and Jackson Wilkens, Kaylea Kramer, Lane, Jacob and Evelyn Smith, Tyler and Brennen Hall and Mason Ackerson; and a sister, Jane (Steve) Coons of New Boston, Preceded in death by: his father; and Melvin and Vera Warneke. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. He and his wife also owned and operated D.R.M. Computer Store, Oelwein, from 1989 to 1995. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and past president of the Oelwein Lions Club. Survived by: his wife; three sons, Donald and James, both of Oelwein, and Ronald of Waterloo; a daughter, Lori (Greg) Beierschmitt of Fairbank; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John Paul (Carol) of Albuquerque, N.M., and Joseph (Martha) of Washburn. Preceded in death by: a brother in infancy, Michael; and a sister, Marilyn Jean Aiello.

He was born June 6, 1926, in Dysart, son of Vernon and Rose Messer Knupp. On Feb. natural causes. He was born July 1, 1933, in Frederika, son of Daniel Fayette and Lillian Mata Sorenson Stevens. He married Carol Dahlstrom on June 22, 1952, in Waterloo.

They later divorced. He graduated from Frederika High School in 1950. Mr. Stevens was employed on the loading dock at Rath Packing Co. from 1951 until its closing in 1984.

Byron EMunk 943-2009) SUMNER Byron Elmer Munk, 66, of Sumner, died Saturday, Aug. 22, at home following a brief illness. He married Mary Jane Bean, and they later divorced. He married Eloyce Farrill on May 24, 1980, in Santa Cruz, Calif. She preceded him in death in 2005. He graduated from Oroville Schools in 1961 and served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Munk worked construction, was a Byron Munk mechanic, worked for Readlyn Farm Automation, Sumner High School and Southern Classic Trailer Manufacturing prior to retiring in 2006. Survived by: a son, Clint (Beth) of Readlyn; four daughters, Marcella (Ron) Manago of Oroville, Jenny Fox of Sumner, Kristina (Nick) Chavera-Munk of Seaside, and Katy Munk of Fredericksburg; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Sharon, Colleen, Felicia and Janee; and a special friend, Lavearl Waterman of Sumner. Several family members and friends are expected to gather at the memorial this weekend.
