Dean Lashbrook, Ralph Martin and John Whitaker went to Dcs Moines Tuesday to take phys-ical examinations preparatory to en- listing in the "flying course. If they are accepted the boys will take the refresher course for high school graduates, sponsored by the Elks club of Charles City, that will qualify them for the air service.

It is understood that only men having two years' college work are eligible for enlistment in the regular flying cadet corps of the army, and the course offered at Charles City is to condense the studies. Swanson Named Bremer District Scout Chairman I Courier special Service) Waverly, Ia. Roy Swanson, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce of Waverly, was elected chairman of the Bremer county district of the Boy Scouts of America at their annual meeting held in the Legion hall Tuesday evening. L. Shoemaker, 309 Bertch avenue, is ill of pneumonia at his home, it was reported Wednesday. He had previously been sick with bronchitis. Waterloo's first diphtheria case of the season was on the city board of health's records Wednesday, with Quintin Fideler, 19, of 207 Cut-ler street, in Isolation hospital for treatment Taken ill Monday, Fideler was reported by attendants not in serious condition. One other non-Waterloo diphtheria case was reported here this month, with an Illinois visitor to the Dairy Cattle Congress its victim.

Tom Hadley has been president of the alumni association during the last year. Clayton Ulrich was re-elected president of the Mt. Vernon township Farm Bureau at the group's annual meeting Tuesday evening in Black's tearoom.

All other officers were re-elected. Speaker was Rev. H. H. DIeren-field, pastor of First Presbyterian church, who discussed Palestine.

(Sriecial) Sol- diers returning to camp from Stacyville include Wilfred Schrandt and Florentine Brown, of CamD Claiborne, and Eddie Brumm of Fort Leonard Wood. Samson Plays Brilliantly at Organ Recital Playing a brilliant recital of organ literature ranging from the sixteenth century to the present date, George W. Samson of Iowa State Teachers college thrilled his audience of over 350 members and guests of the Waterloo chapter of the American Guild of Organists In First Presbyterian church Tuesday evening. Four of his nine program numbers were quiet selections, while the rest Including his final piece, Bonnet's "Concert Variations," were deep, heavy renditions. His concluding selection was probably the most outstanding thing played by the college instructor, who did the extremely difficult pedal work brilliantly.

His change of registration made pleasing contrast in the tone color, and his listeners spared nothing in their applause as the concert ended. Considered as one of the most outstanding organists in the mid-dlewest, Mr. Samson was also lauded for his rendition of "Fantasia and Fugue in Minor" (Bach). Other selections Included on his program were Guilmant's "Choral and Fugue," Buxtehude's "Aria," Rheinberger's "Fugue," Bach's "Arioso," "When Thou Are Near" and "Come Sweet Death" and Regers "Benedictus." This is the second of the guild's recitals, having sponsored and presented Eigenshank of Chicago last winter. J.

Friday. Chief speaker in the morning will be Mrs. F. B. Godfrey, Orlando, field worker from the national office, and in the afternoon speakers will be Mrs.

Thomas Stotts, Marshalltown; Miss Ortha Lane, missionary from China, and Mrs. R. D. Young, Mt Vernon, la. Officers will be elected during the latter session.

The couple will make their home northwest of Clutier. A wedding dance was held at community hall in Clutier Tuesday night. Elma, la. A halloween party has been planned for the parochial high school in I. C.

hall Friday evening. Eighteen members of St. Ansgar I. C. junior federated club were entertained by Tomorrow's club, El-ma's junior federated club Monday evening at the Cyril Finch home.

This meeting was the yearly exchange program and the St Ansgar group had charge. Members and friends of Epworth league of Elma Methodist church had a halloween party at the church Monday evening. Refreshments were served at the parsonage following games. Quasqueton, la. Mrs.

Lena Allen, who has been visiting her brother, R. L. Wallace, and wife for some time, left Sunday by automobile for her home at Stockton, Cal. She was accompanied by Mrs. Edith Klotz and Miss Nelle Pierce, who will spend the winter in California.

Visit Hike After 41'Year Absence Tourter Special Service) Dike, la. John Olsen, 80, of Ringsted, visited friends in Dike Sunday and Monday after an absence of 41 years. When he left, the site of Dike was a field of waving corn, he said. Forty and 50 years "ago he was much in demand as a violinist at wedding parties and many a time he would play until morning while guests from miles around tripped to the lilting tunes of Danish dances. Mr.

Olsen came to this country from Denmark when he was 25. He had been scheduled to sail on the Danish liner, Geiser, but he missed it. A few days later the boat was rammed by its siSter ship and sent to the bottom. Mr. Olsen's wife died five months ago.

Their three children all were born on their farm three miles east of Dike. IS AWARDED DIVORCE. Allison, Ia. (Special) Florence Burman has been granted a divorce in Butler county district court on grounds of cruel and inhuman treatment from Roy Bur-man. Plaintiff was given custody of the two minor children, Doris and Kieth, and the defendant is to pay $18 per month as support money for such time as is provided by law or changed by court.

Courier Special Service) Strawberry Point. Ia. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Dunsmoor celebrated their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary Tuesday at their farm home southwest of town.

A potluck din ner was served at noon to the im mediate relatives and open house was held in the afternoon. Mr. Dunsmoor. son of Mr. and Mrs.

William Dunsmoor, was born May 10. 1854, near Strawberry Point. Mrs. Dunsmoor who was Carrie Nickols was born near Colesburg Dec. 22.

1858. On Oct 28, 1877, they were married at the home of Mr. Dunsmoor's parents. With the exception of a few years at Britt and Fayette, they have lived their entire married life on the present farm. They have two sons, Frank of Strawberry Point, and Ernest' of Cedar Rapids, five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

New Hampton, la. Miss Berna- dine Fisher and LeRoy Koehlerwere married Sunday afternoon at St Paul's Lutheran church by Rev. Theodore L. Fritschel, pastor. Attendants were Miss Pauline Fisher, Webster City, and James McFarland, New Hampton.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Fisher, Alta Vista, and the bridegroom is the son of the late Mr.
