17, 1948, in Waterloo, son of La Verne Stewart and Lee Ezra Cherry Jr. He married Cheryl Ross, and they later divorced. He then married Lynet Holmes, and they later divorced. Mr. Cherry attended Waterloo East 1 ligh School and had worked various jobs in Waterloo and Lincoln, before becoming disabled.

Survived by: five sons, Arthur Noya, I le was born Aug. 27, 1949, in Waterloo, son of Vernal L. and Mary E. Zickefoose Juel. Mr.

Juel graduated from Waverly High School in 1968, then served as an air mechanic and repairman in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict 1 le worked for Rath Packing Cleveland Welding and Waterloo Services. In 2008 he went to work at Growmark where he currently was a mechanic. I le also currently was commander of American Robert Juel Arthur Cherry LaMar and Tayvon, all of Waterloo, and Shelton of Port Arthur, Texas; three daughters, Angela (Kenny) Germany of Los Angeles, Carmen Pleasant of Las Vegas and Nashonda Banks of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Aundra Johnson of Houston and Lee Cherry III of Gadsden, and two sisters, Gwen Cherry of Waterloo and Arlene Kyle of Tucson, Ariz. Preceded in death by: a son, Christopher; a brother, Kenneth and a sister, Charlotte Cherry Carson.

(1 91 7-201 1) VINTON Lee Edward Smith 93, of Vinton, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Virginia Gay Hospital, Vinton. He was born Nov. 20, 1917, in Waterloo, son Communities Windhaven. She was born Sept.

4, 1926, in Rowena, S.D., daughter of John and Inga Bratlie Thorson. She married Marlowe E. Bergeson on Aug. 9, 1947, in Waterloo. He died Nov.

7, 2004. Survived by: a son, Greg (Sue) of Marshall-town; a daughter, Lynette Jordan of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Adam (Sarah) Bergeson, Rpniamin Mirhplle Shivelv and Elvse of Frank and Lettie Mae Barton Smith. He married Nellie Skalsky on Feb. 20, 1937. She died in 1995.

During World War II, Mr. Smith worked in the shipyards in California. Upon his return to Iowa, he worked at Rath Packing Co. and Headford Foundry, both in Waterloo, and retired from the maintenance department for the city of Waterloo. Survived by: a son, Lee Jr.

(Barb) of Vinton; Lee Smith Jr. Louise Megan Jordan; a great-grandson, Isaac Bergeson shivejy. a brother, Norman Thorson; and a sister, Alice (John) Evans of Williams. Preceded in death by: her parents, four brothers and a sister. Services: 10 a.m.

Fairbank, died at home Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, of She was born June 23, 1918, in Sumner, daughter of August G. and Alvina Kuker Meyer. She married Herman William Kas- 1C rtf CrY-irf -lin heart and kidney failure. He was born May 17, 1930, in Bremer County, son of Edward and Irene Staack Hartman.

He married Joyce Campbell on Aug. 7, 1955, at the Presbyterian Church, Jesup. Mr. Hartman was a farmer in the Jesup, Dunkerton and Fairbank area, raising paint horses and feeder calves. He worked at Ready Mix and Construction, Dunkerton, for 12 years, then worked at John Deere Vl-r-' Church, rural Sumner.

Travis Thomas was driving a sport utility vehicle and allegedly struck and killed bicyclist Randy Nomeland, 60, of Minneapolis.

The incident happened about 10:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 18 west of Britt. Nomeland, also known as Railroad Randy, arrived in town early to help other hobos prepare for the National Hobo Convention on Aug. 11-14.

Radio legend CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) Leo Greco, who entertained generations of listeners on WMT AM 600, died Tuesday in Hiawatha. According to the radio station in Cedar Rapids, Greco succumbed after a long illness. He was 89. Greco grew up in Oelwein and started playing the accordion when he was 10. He joined his first band at 15.

He moved to Cedar Rap Marlys "Marlie" Kasemeier of Waverly and Marlene Ballard of Country Clubs Hills, three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Preceded in death by: two brothers, Albert and Lorenz Meyer. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Waverly, with burial in Lutheran Cemetery of Sumner Township (Spring Fountain), rural Sumner.

Robert B. "Bob" Haight The Rev. Robert B. "Bob" Haight died suddenly in his Solon home after a valiant 3 'A-year battle with for 21 years, retiring in 1984. He was a lifetime member of American Paint Horse Association and served as a national director.

He also had been a member of the Iowa Paint I lorse Club since 1968, serving as president and also on the board of directors. He was a member of the Fair-bank American Legion Post 552 and of St. Peter's Church, where he served as an elder. He was a former member of St. John's Church, Fairbank, serving as a trustee, elder and president.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a son, Harlan (Deb) of Fairbank; two daughters, Barb Boevers of Readlyn and Brenda (Dan) Salisbury of Dunkerton; 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Ryan) Peterson, Andy (Sheila) Boevers, Lee (Ann) Hartman, Sarah Quang, Jacob, Jenna and Jared Salisbury, Shon and Matt Grimm and Kara (Josh) Burkhart; nine great-grandchildren, Jalynn and Drake Peterson, Zack Boevers and one on the way, Ellie and Austin Hartman, Kailee and Brynn Quang and Tyler and Kaitlin Grimm; a brother, Loren Hartman; a brother-in-law, Virgil Hesse; along with many nieces and nephews. Dennis Ray Rucker, 53, of 2231 Sunnyside Circle, Cedar Falls, was arrested July 17 on Broadway Street for second-offense operating while a rare form of thyroid cancer.

He grew up on a farm northeast of Waterloo, the son of Lee G. and Marjorie May Haight (who have both predeceased him), and attended high school in Denver. He was the beloved husband of the Rev. Emily S. (Demme) Haight, Ph.D., of Houston, for 34 years, and the devoted father of David L.

Haight (Megan) of Dallas and Daniel B. Haight of Solon. He is survived by two sisters, Marilyn The Rev. Robert Haight Daily Record Haight of Minneapolis and Marty Kajewski (Bill) of Oelwein; and one brother, Richard Haight (Janis) of Waterloo. Bob graduated with a Bachelor of Sciene degree in chemistry from Iowa State, Ames, and with a Master of Divinity degree from Garrett -Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, 111.

He worked as a psychiatric technician at Evanston Hospital before entering the United Methodist ministry. He served as a dedicated parish pastor of churches in Wilmette, Sheridan and Norway, Evanston, Elmhurst, Ingalls Park (Joliet), Oak Forest and Orland Park, 111., for a total of 34 years. He was a consultant in the use of computers for church administration and electronic media for contemporary worship. One of his joys was collecting more than 400 l64th scale toy tractors. He will be greatly missed by 10 nieces and nephews and many extended family members.

A memorial service officiated by the Rev. Carol Kress will be Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Solon United Methodist Church at 3 p.m., with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. His life and ministry also will be celebrated at Faith United Methodist Church, Orland Park, on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions honoring his values and interests may be made to Garrett -Evangelical Seminary, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), Habitat for Humanity or Bread for the World. The temperature was above 90 degrees at the time. William Allen Archer IV, 25, of Evansdale, was arrested Aug. 2 for aggravated domestic assault. He allegedly kicked Christina Kur-pgewert and pulled her hair. The charge was enhanced because of a prior conviction.

Dean A. DiGiacomo 908-201 1) A Mass will be dedicated to Dean Anthony DiGiacomo on Aug. 25 at St. Edward's Catholic Church at 7:30 a.m. I le passed away unexpectedly July 27 from a heart attack while working on his beloved orchard.

Dean was born Dec. 18, 1968, in Waterloo, to Nick and Deanna DiGiacomo. He was a graduate of Waterloo West High School, wrestled for Iowa State and earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Iowa. Dean took care of his elderly mother for years in Waterloo before she passed away last November. He became quite the master gardener in the last few years of his life.

I le recently bought land in southern Iowa and was in the process of planting an orchard. I le is survived by his three siblings, John DiGiacomo and his wife Lisa of San Diego, Nick DiGiacomo and his wife Ann of Cedar Rapids and Daveen DiGiacomo of San Francisco. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Nic and Deanna DiGiacomo. A funeral Mass was held in Sharon, at St. Rose Chapel where he was buried next to his parents..
